When I am working and in a creative flow, I'm often listening to my Disney Pandora station. Yep, I could listen to Disney-type music all day, every day. One song that has been playing frequently is "Almost There" from The Princess and the Frog. I LOVE the message from this song. It's all about a young entrepreneur with a big dream and how she knows that she needs to work hard to make it happen. What a great message for young kids! One line from this song has been reverberating in my head like a mantra:
I believe in modern-day fairytales and that everyone can have a happy ending (although the definition will vary greatly from person to person). This song lyric reminds me that owning my own business is my fairytale, but I have to put in the hard work to make it happen. No one else is going to make it happen for me. If I want to find new people to create something for, I need to go out and find them.
I am finally in the stage of my business start-up where I'm starting to see the effects of the hard work I put in throughout this year. Not only am I a better designer, but people know what I do and think of me when they think "I need stationery" or "I need a new logo". That is a BIG DEAL for me! But after doing a little happy dance after I get off the phone, I remember the hard work has to continue so I can cultivate the rewards of today 6 months from now.
So there is your inspiration for the day, now go out there and make your fairytales a reality!
